so 50 years ago your old man was paid £25 in useless money and yet he kept it hoping that in half a decade he could flog them for a few quid more?
He must've been well paid mate, I reckon that was the equivalent of what he just sold it for, back then!

Re: Anybody here collect coins

My aunt kind of decided I should collect coins and gave me an album and loads of coins, then every year she would give me more coins. I briefly took interest for a year or 2 and did some collecting i then lost interest, but the coins kept coming untill i was about 13 or 14. About 15 years ago my Dad was clearing his loft out and dumped a small suit case of coins on me, which after a brief period of getting in the way I stuffed up in our loft.
Anyway, I guess I have a coin collection, but not seen it for years

" recently got a new fiver with an AA05 serial number which I stuck on ebay for a laugh, and somebody has bid 7.50 + postage."
Looks like they got a bargain as some of these lower AA* serial numbers go for over £200

Cor blimey, must be 50 odd years I reckon Trev.
He retired when he was 50 and is 78 this year, so must have been years and years ago. Maybe even when he was still a messenger there before climbing the ranks.
The bank asked everyone to return the notes, but he's always been shrewd and figured they'd be worth more money.
He didn't pass that trait down, I'm fucking useless.

I collect coins. And notes. Then I spend them. Then, when I collect more, I spend them too. Some of them I save. Not sure what for really. Maybe I'll let the kids have them when I die. But mostly the coins and notes I collect I spend and then wait to get some more. It's fun.

My dad told me about the 50p's worth wedge, but I've forgotten what he said.
When he worked at Standard Chartered Bank, there was a period where they would be paid in cash and he was given £25 in x£5 notes that he noticed hadn't been signed by the bank of England.
He recently sold them for £450 to a collector geek.
Lucky cunt.
